One Room Challenge: Spring 2018 - Design Studio (The Reveal)

Hello and welcome to week 5 of One Room Challenge!

We are finally here ...
Week 6 was a make or break for me. I had taken up too many projects over the last few weeks. The first 2 weeks I made limited progress on the room. I was still finalizing the design and was only able to place the order for the custom wallpaper, rods and ceiling hang bar. The lights were finalized when I was exhibiting my booth at the High Point market. I still have a few hooks that are back ordered.

Between Weeks 5 & 6 I had 2 trunk shows are battling my seasonal allergies. This caused further delays and had me push out my professional photoshoot date. These beautiful shots are my husbands creative skills and of course he loves the new look of this room and rather have it as his office!

Week 6 was a ton of fun and not for the faint of heart! The painter was still putting the final touches on Thursday evening, we had the lights installed that night and the ceiling bar hangs and the mirror got installed at midnight. We then cleaned up and assembled the table after that. All done at 2AM !!
It was quite the task to get this across the line -- It would not have been done without the support of my vendors, my crew and my families patience thru the last week. Clearly the adrenaline rush kept me going and I was deeply motivated once the products started to arrive.

I love ORC because it gets the best out of me and the deadlines force me to work hard and complete these challenging projects in 6 weeks! I share space with a few design rooms to display my products but there is always a limitation in that construct. Having my own studio was always on the agenda but I never got going on it till now. I am excited to bring clients over and use this amazing studio.

Once again, a huge thanks to my vendors:
  • Wallpaper: Area Environments, Phillip Jeffries
  • Paint: Fine Paints of Europe
  • Table: Nuevo
  • Mirror: Nuevo
  • Lights: Hudson Valley Lighting and Mitzi
  • Lucite rods: Plexicraft
  • Lucite hooks: Modshop, Allison Weeks and Luxholdups
  • Ceiling hang bar: William Roberts Vintage
So without further adieu, here is the before and after ...

One Room Challenge: Spring 2018 - Design Studio (Week 5)

Hello and welcome to week 5 of One Room Challenge!

The stuff is arriving

Area Enviornments - Incredible custom wall paper and great customer service. They let me add a bit of my color splash in their pre-existing custom design. I absolutely love them for letting me have my  input. They also expedited my order by a week so I could get it on friday the 4th, in time for getting it installed this coming week.

Phillip Jefferies, as always the most reliable source and amazing customer service.

Hudson Valley and Mitzi were a great source for lighting. My first experience with them but they have been very accommodating.

Below is the Chandelier that will be installed very soon. I did not realize that its going to be this huge a crate but can't wait to get it opened tomorrow to see the real thing.

Some more pictures of the material

Plexi- Craft gets a big shout.

Lydia Borrero at Plexi- craft has been an incredible support by pushing my order very cautiously but at the same time being careful of all the custom handcrafted Lucite Curtain Rods, brackets, finials, curtain rings and shelf, all made from lucite. I was able to cut down on the shipping cost and delivery time by picking up the material from their warehouse.

Below are some of the different size Lucite Curtain Rods nesting on some my beautiful Drapery Fabric n upholstery fabric .

Well, this has been a tough one. As you can tell, I am week away from the reveal and still a lot of work to be done. I hope I can get it done in time for the photo shoot this Friday. Thanks again for following me and look forward to sharing the final output next week!

One Room Challenge: Spring 2018 - Design Studio (Week 4)

Hello and welcome to week 4 of One Room Challenge!

The Studio

I have always been more organized with respect to my projects for the ORC. Getting something completed in 6 weeks is always a challenge. For my second ORC project, which happened to be a Kitchen Renovation, I had done my research placed my orders ahead of time because a kitchen renovation cannot be done in 6 weeks.

I decided to participate in the spring ORC to push myself to execute a project that I have been thinking of for a while but never got down to getting it done because I have been so busy in production and marketing my product.

If 6 weeks wasn't hard enough, I had to plan and organize my booth at HighPoint in the middle of all this. With limited time at hand, I have worked hard and took time to do research while at the exhibition during my 10-15min break time.

I was lucky to find Hudson and Mitzi lighting on the same floor in Suites at Market Square and Addison weeks and Modshop on the ground floor. Seeing the products on display always help generate new ideas.

I was able to take the different ideas and formulate them in to my design to create a functional and aesthetically appealing studio.

My Booth at High Point Market Spring 2018  Ldesign M-8046 at Suites@market Square in between   Pyar&Co and  Austin Allen James and  across from Pandora de Balthazar Fine linen. All incredible vendors and a huge support.

Work in progress --
This week has been incredible difficult. I have been pushing my custom craftsman to create samples and commit to delivering the product in a short time.

The room is finally cleaned and empty. We finalized the electrical fittings - big issue because had to make holes in the ceiling in order to get the wiring in place for the wall sconce and the picture light.

The ceiling is primed and now we have to wait 24hrs- 48 hrs before we can use Fine Arts paint which is supposed to give a mirror look if the ceiling has been sanded well for hours. With limited time left I am going to do my best to get the sanding done to get the right finish.

Here some of the key items I have selected for the design --

  • Wallpaper: Area Environments, Phillip Jeffries
  • Paint: Fine Paints of Europe
  • Table: Nuevo
  • Mirror: Nuevo
  • Lights: Hudson and Mitzi
  • Lucite rods: Plexicraft
  • Lucite hooks: Modshop and Luxholdups
  • Ceiling hang bar: William Roberts Racks

Finally decided on Wall paper from Area Enviornments , was supposed to receive it on the 11th of May but they are working hard to make it available before the reveal day- crossing my fingers here.
Phillip Jeffries ordered and waiting until the end of the coming week.

Llxholdups hooks again hoping to receive hooks by 7th may. You can practically see I am walking on an eggshell here

Plexicraft I have to cross all of my body to receive it in time for install.

Mitzi Chandelier arriving in the coming week but the wall sconce after placing the order - am told that its backordered for July . Funny I had made sure to order only what was available but apparently the supply / availability changes on a day to day basis - hoping  to get lucky here

Nuevo thankfully I should receive the order end of the coming week

Executing this in a short amount of time is still a huge challenge. We need to have the holes pre-drilled for all the pulls and rods before we install the wallpaper. This is a critical step to avoid damaging the wallpaper during final installation. It would help a ton if we had the hardware in hand, but now we have to improvise.

As you can tell, there is still a ton to get done on this project. All before it looks something like this -- More next week ...
